Mobile advertising 'set to grow'

29/06/2009

Mobile advertising is expected to become more popular in the coming months, professionals in IT marketing jobs may be interested to note.

"It is an effective medium because campaigns can be targeted according to the demographic profile of the receiver," said Juniper Research analyst Ian Chard.

Advertising agencies report that total spend is being halved in traditional areas such as print and TV, Mr Chard continued, but at least 50 per cent more is being allocated to mobile advertising.

The expert added that Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) advertising is useful because mobile users can sign up to receive it when they purchase new mobile phones and it can fund their tariffs.

People in IT marketing jobs might be interested in the findings of a report recently published by Jupiter Research, which suggests that the Far East will lead the global ad-funded MMS market by a significant margin.

In addition, it reveals that the number of people using mobile email services will climb by 21 per cent to reach 1.1 billion by 2014.
