Bing incorporates Tweets into search results

02/07/2009

People who use the Bing search engine will now be able to see Twitter updates incorporated into search results.

Sean Suchter, general manager at Bing's Search Technology Centre, revealed on Bing's blog that it is part of an initial attempt to bring a "real-time" element to search results.

Tweets from "some of the more prominent and prolific Twitterers from a variety of spheres" will appear in results if people search for such individuals in conjunction with Twitter-related terms, he stated.

Mr Suchter said that the likes of Al Gore and Ryan Seacrest are part of the initial cohort of Twitterers included in the new feature.

The news might be of interest to professionals in IT marketing jobs and other sectors who are watching with interest as social networking tools continue to proliferate on the web.

Global PR firm Ruder Finn earlier this week stressed the need for marketers to engage with people online.

The company said marketers who fail to connect with people online "do so at their own peril".
