A UK-wide competition has been launched to find new experts capable of specialising in IT security.

The aim of the Cyber Security Challenge is to find people who would be suitable candidates for IT security jobs by putting them through a series of online and face-to-face competitions.

Participants can win bursaries towards university study and places on top training courses too.

It is being run to increase the number of skilled workers in the information security sector in the UK.

"Defending all of our interests in cyberspace is a relatively small cadre of talented and highly skilled public sector and private sector cyber security professionals," said the minister of security, Baroness Pauline Neville-Jones.

During the challenge, IT specialists taking part will be given access to some world-class technologies which would otherwise by inaccessible to them.

It gives people an opportunity to meet and work with some of the UK's most prolific cyber and IT security organisations.
