Twitter 'taking action' against scam sites
10/03/2010
Social networking site Twitter is attempting to clampdown on dodgy links sent through its site in an effort to increase user safety.
All tweets sent on the website will be automatically scanned for links to any sites that could cause harm to Twitter users, according to V3.
Links embedded in personal messages, which are the most likely to be used for phishing or other scams, will be routed through Twitter's own URL compressor to increase safety.
Security professionals discussed information security on social networking sites at the RSA conference, where IT security specialists met to debate the latest global trends and threats.
They are worried by the increased volume of malware attacks on these sites that could potentially cause a risk to the data protection of their users.
Last week, Twitter registered its ten billionth tweet with 50 million being posted on the website on average every day.
London boasts the highest number of Twitter users in the world, however businesses in the capital have been criticised for not taking advantage of the marketing opportunities available from the every-expanding site.
