Technology 'offers alternatives' to postal service
23/10/2009
Businesses could use the latest technology to exchange data as an alternative to the postal service, an expert has said.
Benny Har-Even, technology editor at IT Pro, was speaking as Royal Mail workers went on strike, meaning that issues surrounding business continuity and risk are at the forefront as organisations rely on sending and receiving information.
"If the Royal Mail is proving unreliable, businesses
are going to start looking for alternatives, and technology can play a role in that," he said.
There are ways of sending data electronically while maintaining information security, Mr Har-Even commented.
He added that new systems such as Windows 7 are designed to make it easier for organisations to connect securely, meaning that "there are definitely other possibilities" aside from the postal service.
Another expert recently spoke about the importance of Windows 7 being a success for Microsoft as it competes with the likes of Apple to gain consumer confidence.
Simon May, author of The Rough Guide to Windows 7, said the new product will be key to the software giant's reputation.
