Security of cloud 'obviously an issue'
01/07/2010
Information security is a key concern when it comes to adopting cloud-based enterprise content management (ECM) solutions, it has been suggested.
Doug Miles, the UK managing director of the Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM), said: "Security is obviously an issue, interoperability is obviously an issue – how do you connect the cloud service to your in-house back-end services?"
According to a recent survey by 360°IT, ten per cent of enterprise IT managers are too concerned about the risks to information and network security to get excited by the cloud.
If the government were to introduce a specification for cloud services, some of these fears could be dispelled, according to Mr Miles, who was speaking at the AIIM Roadshow.
"That might actually allow people to know that what they are doing is permissible."
He added that often, organisations are not "so fond" of branded cloud services as they tend not to allow personal contact with the service provider.
